左どなり家のヒエンは５０歳の女性。出入りの道がわが家とは違うので、はじめは塀の穴のような所からヒエンが話しかけてきて、その穴から見える美しい目だけしかわからない人だった。いつの間にか私のベトナム語の先生になり、週に２〜３回わが家にやって、２時間はたっぷりベトナム語を教えてくれる。それから、ヒエンのバイクの後ろに乗って、ダナンの街をドライブしたり、友人の家に遊びに行ったり、ご飯を食べたり、チェ（ベトナムぜんざい）をデザートしたり。 私が休みの日には、ヒエンが作った昼食を差しいれてくれる。はじめは隣から大声がするので何かと思ったら、お盆の上にご飯、スープ、肉料理をのせて塀の上から  さしだすではないか。それが、休みの日の恒例になってしまった。 ヒエンは３０年ほど前にボートピープルとして、小さな小舟に乗って、この国を離れたことがあるが、台風に遭い、脱出に失敗、公安に捕まった経験があるという。 今ヒエンは仕事に恵まれないが、その脱出事件に無関係ではないらしいのが、この国の事情のようだ。 |
